National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC), on behalf of the Dept. of Disability Affairs, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India awards scholarship to the Physically Challenged students under the Differently Abled Students Scheme.
Every year more than 1500 students are awarded scholarship. NHFDC (trust fund) has issued notification for inviting of applications for academic year 2013-14 from Students with Disabilities for award of Scholarships under the Scholarship Scheme.
Details of the Scheme
• Under the scheme, 1500 students are awarded scholarship for Degree and Post Graduation for various professional and technical courses.
• Scholarship is awarded on quarterly basis for the applications received in preceding quarter. Under the scheme, an advance copy of application should also be submitted online at NHFDC site by the candidate.
• Girls have a reserved quota of 30% from the total scholarships awarded. In case of non-availability of the female candidates remaining scholarships will be awarded to male candidates.
Eligibility for Scholarship
• Candidate’s family income from all the sources should not exceed Rs.3 lakhs annually. This includes income of the family members (parents/guardians).
• Candidates already availing the benefit of other scholarship scheme can not apply for the scholarship. Also scholarship holder under this scheme can not apply elsewhere for scholarship.
• Candidate should under Physically Handicap criteria decided by Govt. of India.
Allowance Offered under the Scheme
• Full fees of the course to be paid by government for the courses in the Government and Government aided institutes.
• Maintenance allowance of Rs.2500 per month for graduation courses and Rs.3000 per month for post graduation courses will be provide to students for 10 months in an academic year.
• Books/Stationary allowance worth Rs.6000 for graduate courses and Rs.10000 for post graduate courses to be paid to students under the scheme.
• In addition to the allowances students will be provided financial assistance for purchase of aids and appliances required for course like laptop, vehicle etc.

Apply for Scholarship Online
The candidates seeking to avail benefit of the scheme needs to apply online at NHFDC website. They should print the copy of the online filled application duly recommended by the Head of the Institution, where they study and send it to the below address:

Note : Candidate’s soft copy will only be entertained only after receipt of hard copy. Applicants are allowed to apply anytime during the current academic year.
List of Enclosures to be sent along with Hard Copy
1. Academic Record (attested mark sheets/certificate)
2. Proof of Annual Income
3. Disability Certificate
4. Course fee receipt if paid during the academic session
5. Invoice or receipt of devices purchased which are required for the course.
6. In case of continuation of scholarship in a succeeding year, a copy of the mark sheet of the preceding year.
7. Copy of pass book of saving bank account and cancelled cheque.
